At a time like this we might wonder what message God has for us.
First, I think he would want us to meditate on Psalm 91. It begins, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
I especially like verses 9 and 10: “If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you.” Notice, it doesn’t say that no evil will touch you or affect you, but that no evil will conquer you. We are the conquerors here, through Christ. (Romans 8:37)
Second, I think God would want us to remember how this is all going to end. Psalm 53:4-5 says, “Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God. Terror will grip them, terror like they have never known before.”
As screams ring out and bodies fall and smoke hangs in the air, just remember that with God there are no “persons of interest.” He knows exactly who did this and will show them just how terrible terror can be.
Let not your heart be troubled.
