Jennifer Anniston has a new movie out in which she plays a stripper. The only reason I know this is because of a headline I saw online: “Jennifer Anniston Commends Strippers.” I thought, Jennifer Anniston commends strippers? Really? What on earth for? So I clicked the link to find out.
It turns out that poor Jennifer had a hard time doing her stripping scenes in the movie. She hated showing all that skin to–get this–the cast and crew on location. No mention of the millions of people who will see the movie, just the cast and crew.*
Then, after playing a stripper, she said that she had to commend strippers for having the courage to take off their clothes in front of other people.
Am I missing something?
Memo to Jennifer Anniston: If it’s such a traumatic experience to take off your clothes in front of other people, THEN KEEP THEM ON!
Oh, wait. I forgot. They’re paying you millions. How foolish of me to think that something might be more important than money.
And as for the commendation you offered strippers, my guess is that most of them hate every second of what they do. The courage that you refer to is probably closer to desperation. Haven’t you heard that the adult entertainment industry is notorious for callously exploiting troubled young women who feel they have nowhere else to turn?
But that’s okay, Jennifer. You just keep making movies, raking in millions, and then asking us to feel sorry for you. And I, for one, will continue to marvel at how completely out of touch you and so many of your Hollywood friends are.
And to all the people who idolize celebrities and hang on every word that comes out of their mouths, I leave you with the words of Solomon. He said, “Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.” (Proverbs 14:7)
